FEW holiday destinations could beat a sunny day on the beach with the warm blue water framing the horizon.
But be careful though, tourists should always watch out for cutthroat merchants and other hidden wallet-busting dangers.
Recently, and safe to say, a holiday outing for one unfortunate tourist turned sour when she wrecked the jet ski she was renting.
And the bill? A whopping RM2,500 according to netizen @mhmmdhsm who posted the video.
The video panned over to show the condition of the vehicle, where the right mirror had been shattered. Also, the body received some damages.
“If you don’t have the money don’t go jet skiing in Langkawi,” @mhmmdhsm warned.
Baru aku tahu kalau main jetski ni kene sign agreement if jetski terbalit dalam air kene bayar RM5k ke atas. Tapi owner ni bermurah hati minta customer RM2.5k walaupun ..🥲
Peringatan !!
If korang takda duit jgn cuba main jetski kt langkawi pic.twitter.com/Iqutvs2Sgm

The lady has since emerged to explain herself on TikTok, stating that these jet ski rental businesses should teach the riders how to drive the vehicles too.
She added that there is no insurance coverage for a jet ski rider, meaning that if people were to die or get injured riding it, there will be no compensation.
According to netizen @itsmeaidil in the comment section, jet skis are very expensive, claiming that people cannot buy them by loan, only cash.
“And the model Sea-Doo GTX that people usually use in Langkawi has the price of two MYVI. There is no insurance for coverage if the watercraft is damaged,” said @itsmeaidil.
On the other hand, @_neelain10 who once rode a jet ski in Langkawi said the people will ask if the customer has ever ridden one. Apparently the newbies were taught how to ride it.
“Everywhere I rode it, everyone would ask,” she said.
Looking at the damage, one netizen made an appropriate comment which deserves the highlight:
Another netizen confirmed that these jet skis do not have insurance coverage. “Usually the accident happens when people do not watch their distance. The jet ski we rent usually has speed capping,” he said.
Also, @gawddamitt said marine equipment are expensive as the things in a jet ski are able to withstand salt water.
It appears there is more than meets the eyes where these supposedly fun water rides are concerned.
Perhaps tourists should stick to the good old snorkeling, or for the more adventurous, diving, should they seek to explore the beauty of Langkawi.
For those who do not heed the warning and would like to try jet skiing, bring some cash. On second thought, bring lots of cash. —Apr 16, 2025
