Traders stampede to get spot at bazaar: Netizens blame municipal council for occurrence

WE can all agree that a stampede is never a good thing unless you happen to run a private hospital nearby the scene of the carnage.

That said, the municipal council of Muar should take heed from the recent stampede of traders at the gate so it does not happen again.

According to netizen Roman Akramovich who posted the video, they were rushing to get a spot in the Ramadan bazaar.

The brief video also showed several people falling down and being stepped on by the others behind.

While some netizens found it amusing, a good many were not laughing, pointing out the municipal council of Muar for their lack of accountability.

According to Netizen Menggelepa! those in the stampede were likely curry puff sellers, grilled fish and popia sellers among other things.

“Is this Squid Game of the Malay Peninsular? Ramadhan version?” said sznsndu while another netizen claimed it reminded him of the “cop tiang” game he played a long time ago during school.

Sir Eito Abd Halim added that this should have been turned into a marathon instead. “Shameful. It is the year 2025 and still like this, “ said Psikologi Songsang.

“There is no need to create entertainment using poor people. To ask them to run like this? What sickness is this? People are already having trouble looking for sustenance. There is no need to trouble them again,” said Amani Salim.

Another netizen suggested that instead of drawing lots, the municipal council of Muar should open up applications online for one month before the deadline.

Then there was Faiz Muhamad★彡 who suggested that selection is done by tasting the food first, and then the pricing, so that tasteless food with Jewish prices can be excluded.

Perhaps the best comment to conclude this fiasco is from Anuar Razali who said, “These people were supposed to be doing business for a month, but will instead rest for a month due to their injuries.”—Feb 18, 2025
