FEW heads will turn when a person were to mention something like horse racing, or dog racing, these animal sports being ubiquitous across the civilised world.
But only in Boleh Land will people be able to find the mud creeper snail race, which is currently trending on Tiktok.
Hosted by Muhammad Aswat Azdha Idris, 29, these excruciatingly slow races are as funny as they are ridiculous.
In a video which has reached over 476,300 views, Aswat could be seen making a lively commentary over the “contestants” which were slithering at a pace of less than 1 metres per hour.
Each contestant was represented by a state in Malaysia and he was calling out to the viewers to guess the likely winners.
Safe to say, quite a number of contestants were content to remain on the spot.
Even more hilarious was the fact that he had to periodically readjust the contestants who were having trouble keeping themselves in their designated paths.
The comedy even stretched into the comment section where netizens gave equally side-splitting opinions.
A netizen wondered if he led a lonely private life for having finished watching something as bizarre as a mud creeper snail race.
Another netizen suggested that obstacles could be added to the racing track to amp up the heat.
Looking at those poor, lethargic creatures, we think an obstacle taller than a grain of sand (laid horizontal) should prove challenging to them.
Now that the mud creeper snails are taking centre stage, netizen lynndaramly is concerned if their market price will soon rise in correlation to the demand.
Before, Aswat live shows were viewed by less than 10 people. He was very grateful to the mud creeper snails who helped his TikTok account bloom on cyberspace.
He works as a tourist driver and lives in Kampung Lubuk Chempadak, Pulau Tuba.
“Indeed many people have messaged me, stating their intention to give a certain amount of money for betting. But I rejected this as it is gambling. I am doing this just for fun only,” said Aswat.
Although we can all agree that snails are not the best species for a racing contest, the show will not be running out of steam soon with the ample viewership.
In his latest video, Aswat drew circles around the snails and enforced a win condition where the first snail to clear it wins.
If the mud creeper snails had the ability to think deeply, which they don’t, they would be thoroughly confused as to how they ended in an online mollusca race, and not the peaceful swamp that is paradise.
But the show must go on. So kudos to Aswat for his novel idea.
We hope he does not come up with a leech race soon enough. If he did, you know you heard it from us first. – Aug 24, 2024
