Truly “Precious” to empower our textile arts and fashion

“MALAYSIA is a melting pot of cultures and heritage and we must let the world see, feel and experience our precious textile arts and fashion,” opined Precious of Malaysia 2022 Festival organisers recently.

Themed “Empowering Textile Arts and Fashion”, Precious of Malaysia 2022 supports upcoming and established Malaysian fashion designers by showcasing their dazzling creations in an exciting fashion show during its Cultural Fashion Week.

Audience were captivated by the fine artistry of traditional fashion which was given a new breath of fresh air, especially the Princess Hang Li Poh and Sultan Melaka fashion masterpieces by Giat MARA, winner of the Best Collection of this fashion show.

Other winners include Jay K (Best Cultural Inspiration), Afiq Sha (Upcoming Fashion Designer), Kenny Loh (Fashion Designer Icon), and Dian & Norule (Borneo Rising Fashion Designer).

Celebrating friendship

“The fashion show is very special as we are not really competing with one another but instead celebrating our friendship as we promote the rich heritage of our wonderful Malaysian textile arts and fashion,” said Kenny Loh Couture founder Kenny Loh, which showcased the best of Peranakan (Straits Chinese) fashion.

“It was mind-blowing to watch and judge the fashion show because of exceptionally high standard creations. Why must we just keep it hidden in this festival? Bring it to the world,” enthused Francis Yip, fashion celebrity icon and judge for this fashion show.

Apart from the Cultural Fashion Week, Precious of Malaysia 2022 also showcased Textile Exhibition, Gala and Charity Night and Bazarlista Food Truck Fest.

“Precious of Malaysia brings more than just the best of Malaysia textile arts and fashion but also the generosity of corporations which support our welfare programme by contributing to the Kiwanis Kland and Rumah Nur Hati Ampang,” revealed Precious of Malaysia patron Tengku Datuk Dr Hishammudin Zaizi Tengku Bendahara Azman Shah Alhaj during the Gala and Charity Night of the festival.

Supported by the Tourism Ministry, the seven-day Precious of Malaysia 2022 Festival was held from Dec 5 to 11 for the first time by the FM Group in collaboration with Universiti Malaya and the National Textiles Museum. – Dec 25, 2022
