Tun M’s former golden boy disagrees with him on KKB by-election

PERIKATAN Nasional (PN) Selangor chairman Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, a former golden boy of former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad criticised the latter after he predicted that the DAP would win the by-election (PRK) for the Kuala Kubu Bharu state legislative assembly (DUN) seat.

Azmin, disagreeing with Dr Mahathir, said that it was the voters in Kuala Kubu Bharu who would determine DAP’s victory and not Dr Mahathir.

“That’s Dr Mahathir’s view. What determines the victory is the voters in Kuala Kubu Baharu, what is being done by the competing parties is that we go down to explain and convince the voters about the policies of their respective parties.

“Ultimately the voters will decide and I am sure today’s voters are mature enough, especially young people who have access to information through the internet and so on,” he told the media during a talk at the District Voting Center (PDM) Batu 30 Hulu Yam, late last night (April 27).

Yesterday, Dr Mahathir predicted the DAP would win the Kuala Kubu Bharu by-election because of the split Malay vote.

He said the emergence of Malay-based splinter parties has fragmented the Malay vote in the country.

“Even though there are more Malay voters in the constituency than Chinese, the Malays are divided while the Chinese are united. So DAP will possibly win,” he told reporters at Putra’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house.

Kuala Kubu Bharu DUN is a mixed seat with Malay voters making up 46%, Chinese voters 30%, Indian voters 18% and others 5%.

The by-election shall witness a four-cornered clash involving Pakatan Harapan (PH), PN, Parti Rakyat Malaysia (PRM) and an independent candidate.

Pang Sock Tao from DAP will defend the seat against the challenges of Khairul Azhari Saut (Bersatu), Hafizah Zainudin (PRM) and Nyau Ke Xin (Independent). – April 28, 2024
