Two men caught trying to enter Istana Negara with a machete

POLICE arrested two men yesterday (May 17) afternoon after they attempted to break into Istana Negara, claiming they wanted to meet the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar.

Upon inspection, police found a machete in the vehicle driven by the suspects, aged 29 and 37. The men allegedly tried to trespass into Istana Negara with the weapon in their car.

City police chief Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa reported that the police intercepted the men as they attempted to enter the palace compound via Gate 3 on Jalan Sultan Abdul Halim around 4.40 pm. The suspects insisted they wanted to meet His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim.

“Further checks on the vehicle led to the discovery of a machete. Two local men, aged 29 and 37, were arrested.

“Urine tests showed that both suspects tested negative for drugs. Both men have been remanded until May 21 for further investigation.”

He also urged all to not speculate on the matter or spread fake information.

The case is being investigated for criminal trespass and possession of an offensive weapon. – May 18, 2024
