THE Ayer Kuning state legislative assembly by-election in Tapah will feature a three-way contest among candidates from Barisan Nasional (BN), Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM).
The Election Commission accepted nomination papers from all three candidates – Dr Mohamad Yusri Bakir (BN), Abd Muhaimin Malek (PN) and Bawani KS (PSM) – without rejections.
The nomination process at Dewan Merdeka Tapah proceeded smoothly, with prominent party leaders accompanying the candidates.
Abd Muhaimin, who is the Principal of Maahad Tahfiz Addin Air Kuning, was accompanied by top party leaders, including PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man; PN deputy chairman Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin; PN spokesperson Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu and Gerakan chairman Datuk Dominic Lau.
Bawani, a lawyer contesting for the second time after the 15th General Election, arrived accompanied by her supporters and proposers.
The Ayer Kuning by-election is being held following the death of the incumbent, the late Ishsam Shahruddin, due to a heart attack on Feb 22. — April 12, 2025
