Two years of Madani celebrations seen as a waste of money by Anwar’s opponents

IN a recent post on its X account, the Keluar Sekejap podcast, headed by former UMNO member and ex-Minister Khairy Jamaludin, questioned the government’s decision to celebrate the Two-Year Madani Government anniversary at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) from November 22 to 24.

The post described the event as a “politically driven use of public funds,” echoing concerns that the celebration offers little benefit to Malaysians.

“Allocating resources to a one-off event, especially one that isn’t a national celebration, doesn’t align with Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s stance on preventing government waste,” the post stated.

It also mentioned criticism by political analyst Rizuan Ahamad on the event’s expenses.

Meanwhile, another political opponent of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim condemned the event’s organisation, saying it is a waste of funds.

“November 22, 23, and 24, 2024, at KLCC. Isn’t the Madani philosophy about avoiding waste and governing to save the nation, to prevent the return of wrongdoers? Or is it a three-day carnival of self-praise, dramatic videos, buses full of supporters, bringing in KLCC visitors just to make it look crowded?” adds a lawyer and defeated candidate for the Pejuang party, Rafique Rashid.

On X, users had their say on the posts from Keluar Sekejap and Rafique.

While some support the idea that it is a waste of money, others gave a thumbs up to Anwar for spreading the message of the Madani regime.

Perhaps out of sarcasm, a user on X said Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad should gate-crash the party at KLCC with his presence.

While some users reminded Khairy the country made losses with vaccines during COVID-19, others said the people are short-sighted and never thankful even if that money spent at KLCC was shared with them.

A user posted a photo of a news piece in which Anwar is saying the government should not waste money in big events, while another one reminded the Prime Minister that he is saying one thing and doing another.
