UD Trucks, TCIE launch CKD Euro 5 truck range in M’sia

UD Trucks, in collaboration with sole distributor partner Tan Chong Industrial Equipment Sdn Bhd (TCIE), has commenced production of the first units of complete knocked-down (CKD) Euro 5 truck range.

The lineup includes the heavy-duty UD Quester and medium-duty UD Croner, assembled locally by Tan Chong Motor Assemblies Sdn Bhd (TCMA) at its plant in Segambut.

Introduced in Malaysia in the fourth quarter of the previous year, UD Trucks’ Euro 5 range incorporates advanced Euro 5 engines equipped with UD Truck’s Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology. This technology significantly enhances environmental protection and fuel economy.

“As a sustainability leader among the Japanese trucks brand globally and with a long-standing history of innovation, UD Trucks is committed to continuously offer superior emissions control technology for higher efficiency and cleaner environment.

“Our new Euro 5 truck range underlines our corporate purpose of creating ‘Better Life’ for the people, planet and business through sustainable transport solutions,” said UD Trucks Hub Malaysia managing director Steve Hedouin.

“The new Euro 5 range, locally-assembled by our experienced partner in Tan Chong Group, will give our customers in Malaysia the opportunity to embrace positive changes and future-proofing their logistics operations in a more competitive manner.

“We are confident that the new CKD Euro 5 Quester and Croner will deliver integrated sustainability across our customers’ logistics operations and processes.”

Moreover, TCIE COO Say Teck Ming expressed pride in the enduring partnership between UD Trucks and TCIE. He noted the benefits of the new Euro 5 CKD trucks in reducing environmental impact, improving business efficiency, and offering operators cost-effective solutions.

“As part of the Tan Chong Group, we are proud to roll-out the new CKD Euro 5 UD Quester and Croner, as it signifies the enduring partnership between UD Trucks and TCIE. We have been assembling the heavy-duty Quester and medium-duty Croner since 2016 and 2018 respectively, and to continue with the new Euro 5 range is an understandable and beneficial rationale for all our stakeholders, especially our customers.

“Featuring new emission control engines and significant upgrades, the UD Euro 5 CKD trucks will help to reduce environmental impact, improve business efficiency and the overall total cost of ownership for our customers’ logistics operation. Importantly also, the trucks will offer operators efficiency at an affordable price range.”

CKD production at TCMA involves various stages including cab welding, chassis assembly, and end-of-line inspection. The production process has been supported by UD Trucks International’s manufacturing team to ensure smooth operations and quality control.

Several key logistics customers have already placed substantial orders for the new Euro 5 CKD trucks. Production will be scaled up to meet growing demands.

“Many of our long-time customers have actually expressed their willingness to support environmental sustainability and implement greener trucking solutions.

“Whenever they are prepared to do so, UD Trucks and TCIE are always ready to render the assistance and knowledge that would help them transition to cleaner fleet within cost effective measures for the long run,” Say further shared.

Furthermore, the Euro 5 range featuring SCR technology offers significant reductions in nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulate matter (PM) emissions compared to Euro 3 levels. Additionally, these engines boast lower fuel consumption and CO² emissions.
