Ulu Tiram attack: Suspect is not linked to any terror groups

INSPECTOR-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain clarified that initial reports linking the suspect to Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) were due to his father’s past involvement with the group.

The police, he said, can now say that the suspect who attacked the Ulu Tiram Police Station has no ties to any terrorist groups.

“He (the suspect) is not with any terrorist group and has nothing to do with JI, he is not in that direction (involved with terrorist groups),” Bernama quoted him as saying.

The suspect, a 21-year-old, acted alone, confirming Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail’s statement that he is a lone wolf.

Moreover, Saifuddin also confirmed yesterday (May 18) that the suspect’s actions were not connected to any organised group and were driven by personal motivations.

The investigation is ongoing to determine the motive behind the attack. – May 19, 2024
