DO not get over excited over Barisan Nasional’s (BN) win in Melaka and keep your focus on delivering promises made to the people, UMNO information chief Shahril Hamdan said.
“We also must analyse everything that happened in Melaka thoroughly, within our ranks and opponents as well.
“Electoral post-mortem is not only conducted when we lose but also when we are victorious. This will prevent us from making simplistic conclusions over our win,” he said, in a Facebook post.
Yesterday, BN won 21 out of the 28 seats contested in the Melaka polls. UMNO won 18 seats while its partners MCA won two, with MIC winning one.
Both Pakatan Harapan and Perikatan Nasional got decimated, with PKR getting wiped out while DAP won four seats, with Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) winning one.
As for Perikatan, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) won only two seats, with its allies PAS and Gerakan winning nothing.
Credibility key to future success
On that note, Shahril said that a post-mortem on BN’s massive win in Melaka would help its election machinery to prepare for future elections.
He added that any points derived from the scrutiny should be assessed on whether it can be used elsewhere, at a different time.
“We should always keep a mindset to apply what works and improve on our weakness. Nothing wrong for us to be on our toes constantly, rather than being in our comfort zone.”
Shahril remarked: “For now, we must fulfil the pledges made under our manifesto, especially the ones where we promised to implement within 100 days.
“Keeping our credibility intact is definitely the right recipe for continued success.”- Nov 21, 2021.
