UMNO Negeri Sembilan, led by Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias, defends its role in the Unity Government as a pragmatic move to stabilise Malaysia amid economic and political crises.
Rejecting claims of “whitewashing” DAP, Jalaluddin emphasises UMNO’s commitment to Malay and Islamic interests within the government, not as a DAP ally.
“Firstly, UMNO has never denied the stark political differences with DAP. We have clashed over ideology and principles, but politics is not rigid. It evolves with the current realities and needs of the people and nation,” he pointed out in a statement on Saturday.
“Thus, UMNO’s decision to cooperate in the Unity Government is a realpolitik step to save Malaysia from economic uncertainty, political instability, and threats to the people’s future,” he said.
He criticises divisive narratives as outdated and calls UMNO’s participation a responsible act to ensure national stability and implement pro-Malay policies.
Jalaluddin added that UMNO Negeri Sembilan vows to stand firm against political pressures, prioritising the nation’s future over past grudges, under the leadership of Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
He further clarified that UMNO is not elevating DAP as a champion of Malay or Islamic agendas.
Instead, UMNO’s presence in the government ensures the voice of the party and the Malay-Islamic community continues to be heard and upheld.
“We never forget history, but we cannot remain enslaved by past political grudges. UMNO President, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, and other leaders uphold the principle that national stability is the priority,” he said.
“Their courage in steering the party back to the mainstream is not driven by a lust for power but by the conviction that UMNO must be in the government to ensure policies uplifting Malays, bumiputera, and Islam are implemented,” he explained. —May 4, 2025
