“UMNO is not virtuous party to speak of betrayals”

UMNO secretary general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki seems to relish the thought that Bersatu is paying dearly for its past betrayals of UMNO.

To date, six MPs from Bersatu have crossed over to support Prime Minister (PM) Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. There are rumours that rank and file members of Bersatu might be joining PKR in droves.

The six Bersatu MPs defected on on the grounds of the lack of constituency development funds, although rumours abound that material rewards and positions were awaiting these turncoats.

If Asyraf thinks Bersatu deserves to be betrayed by these MPs and others who are waiting for the right moment to join the PKR, there must be something wrong with UMNO in the first place.

If Bersatu was born and nurtured through betrayals and treachery, what about PKR. Isn’t PKR another clone of UMNO? Was the formation of PKR a betrayal of UMNO? Is the current PM, accused of abandoning UMNO?

The political circumstances for the formation of PKR might be different for Bersatu, but the DNA is the same.

Was it UMNO members who left the party to join PKR? Why is Asyraf refraining from accusing PKR of betrayals?

If PKR is an offshoot of UMNO, why should UMNO have a coalition government with Pakatan Harapan (PH) inclusive of PKR and the DAP?

UMNO having fought tooth and nail against the DAP, has now embraced its former political nemesis. Isn’t this a betrayal on the part of UMNO?

Asyraf coming from a politically tainted party should be careful when using the word betrayal. Can Asyraf defend the political collaboration with PKR and the DAP in PH?

Aren’t these political parties once enemies of UMNO? In this respect, how is Bersatu different from the PKR and the DAP?

Asyraf might talk of UMNO as a sacrosanct party, but the fact remains that it is a party that has virtually lost all Malay support.

Asyraf and other UMNO leaders should realise that the sun having set for UMNO, it would be a wishful thinking for UMNO to attain its past glory. – March 17, 2024
