Umno to ex-IGP: Don’t be selective on exposes, include Pakatan’s faults too

WITH former Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador vowing to make more exposes, a Umno leader urged the former to go all out on it instead of cherry-picking issues.

“Hamid said he will talk about political interference in the police force, involving a certain ‘Datuk Seri’ soon.

“We welcome it and I hope our Prime Minister acts on it as well. However, what about during the 22-month rule of Pakatan Harapan?

“Don’t tell me there was no political interference by former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad,” said Umno supreme council member Datuk Puad Zarkashi.

Yesterday, Hamid told Astro Awani that he would reveal a case where a certain “Datuk Seri” was alleged to have misused the Special Branch to pressure his or her political rivals.

However, the former top cop did not state on when he would come forward to the press on the matter.

Before retiring, Hamid went on a tirade against Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin, claiming the latter was interfering in police matters unnecessarily and blamed him for creating factions within the force.

“Hamzah, in his capacity as Police Force Commission (PFC) president, keeps meddling in the transfer of officers.

“A minister should not interrupt the police’s daily affairs. They can give directions or mandate on issues, not decide who becomes deputy director or the next IGP,” he said.

Hamid said that he had brought the matter to Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin but no action was taken.

Hamzah himself was caught featured in an audio clip, discussing about promotions and transfer of police personnel.

While he admitted it was him in the clip, the Larut MP said there was nothing wrong in the conversation, adding it was his prerogative as the Police Force Commission chairman to decide on the matter.

Puad, a former deputy minister, said that Hamid should come clean on all political meddling in the force, regardless of their political affiliation.

“Don’t tell me there was no political interference in the police force during Pakatan’s administration. If you want to make exposes, go all out,” he remarked. – May 4, 2021.
