UMNO vs ROS: Asyraf’s threats proves the party has not changed, Chegubard says

THE apparent threats made by UMNO youth chief Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki against the Registrar of Societies (ROS) showed the party will not hesitate to break the law, as long as it serves their agenda.

“With such talk from Asyraf, it’s no surprise that his superiors like UMNO president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak want to regain power just to get their court charges dropped,” alleged Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) election strategist Badrul Hisham Shaharin.

Yesterday (July 16), Asyraf said that the ROS has no excuse to not approve the constitutional amendments made to UMNO’s charter as Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob himself had supported it, in his capacity as a UMNO vice president.

“As the prime minister, Ismail Sabri’s authority is way above the home minister, the person in charge of the ROS,” Berita Harian reported him as saying.

As of now, the ROS has yet to decide on the amendments despite its deadline falling yesterday.

It is to note that Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin, a Bersatu leader, had reiterated that while ROS comes under his purview, the agency has to act according to the book.

On that note, Badrul argued that UMNO leaders have yet to learn from their mistakes despite getting ousted from power in the last general election.

With Asyraf intimidating the ROS, he added, it was a prelude on how UMNO would continue to abuse their power and manipulate laws for their vested interest.

“People like Asyraf should never become Government leaders and I believe he will be rejected by the public too.”

Badrul remarked: “I strongly believe Ismail Sabri will prioritise rule of law. This is needed so that UMNO can be reformed through and through.” – July 17, 2022
