UMNO Youth chief demands “apology banner at all 881 KK Mart stores nationwide within 48 hours or …

HAVING mobilised UMNO Youth across all states in the country to lodge police police report to commence investigation into sale of socks bearing the “Allah” inscription by KK Super Mart, the movement now wants the convenience store chain to put up apology banners across all its 881 outlets nationwide.

The wing’s chief Dr Muhammad Akmal Saleh has given KK Super Mart two days to comply with its demand lest it will rally for a “full blown boycott”.

“We can’t let the matter rest merely with the shedding of tears … we must teach the culprits a lesson, hence our demand for the apology banner to be hoisted at all of KK Mart’s 881 outlets, otherwise we’ll initiate a more forceful boycott,” he pointed out in a TokTik video uploaded last night (March 16).

“I’ll personally evaluate every location nationwide with the assistance of UMNO Youth members to ensure our demand for an open apology is complied with … let this serve as a lesson not only for KK Mart but also to all quarters who like to stir up 3R (race, religion and royalty) issue.”

Earlier, the Merlimau state assemblyman who is also a Russian-trained medical doctor said the UMNO Jasin division has lodged a police report alongside the party’s youth wing yesterday (March 16).

“We can’t accept their rudeness even though they had apologised on the matter,” reiterated Dr Akmal who is also the Melaka state EXCO for Rural Development, Agriculture and Food Security.

“We urge Malaysians from all races, faiths and political parties to take a tough stance on KK Mart and its vendor as we can’t tolerate their oversight on the matter … We want to ascertain who’s at fault whether it’s KK Mart or its vendor and the matter must be investigated under Section 298(A) of the Penal Code.”

Sections 298 and 298 (A) of the Penal Code make the insult of any religion a criminal offence though these provisions are mainly used against those deemed to have wounded Islam.

Yesterday (March 16), KK Super Mart group founder Datuk Seri Dr K.K. Chai had made a tearful apology, urging consumers not to boycott his brand after a video went viral showing a branch of the brand selling soc`ks with the Arabic inscription of “Allah” on them.

Despite his apology and explanations, Dr Akmal has remained dissatisfied and urged consumers to boycott the chain of convenience stores. – March 17, 2024
