UMNO Youth has called for the purging of “party traitors” to avoid further damage to the country’s oldest and largest Malay-centric party, said UMNO Youth chief Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.
Without naming anyone, Asyraf claimed that these “traitors” put themselves ahead of the party and are like a “cancer” that will eventually ruin the party.
“UMNO Youth has never budged from its stand of defending the party’s leadership without fear or favour,” he was quoted as saying by Astro Awani in his speech at the UMNO General Assembly today.
“Therefore, UMNO Youth calls for party traitors who put their own interests before that of the party’s to be removed before they can become cancer that will destroy the entire party.”
Asyraf further noted that the attitude shown by certain UMNO members and leaders who quarrel among themselves was what had caused the people to lose trust in UMNO and Barisan Nasional (BN) to lead the country.
In fact, he pointed out that this was obvious when they had launched an attack on the party and UMNO president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi during the campaigning period prior to GE15.
“It had never occurred to me how leaders who had lived a luxurious lifestyle for decades on the sweat and tears of party members have today chosen to demonise the party and its leadership simply because they were not chosen as [GE15 candidates],” he pointed out.
“Some candidates chose to be heroes by condemning the party and peddling the idea that voting for him means voting to restore an UMNO that is lost, damaged and corrupt.
“This is as if he is the only noble, perfect person. Is UMNO so desperate that one person has to be made a minister many times over, and is the leadership that lame to let such leaders contest despite repeated betrayals?” – Jan 12, 2023
