Unplug to uplift the planet (and your wallet!)

EACH year on April 22, Earth Day inspires people around the world to reflect on the health of our planet and commit to making more sustainable choices.

Among the many ways to contribute to a greener future, energy conservation stands out as one of the most impactful actions we can take. Oftentimes, it also starts with the simplest of habits.

Unplug the problem

One of the easiest ways to conserve energy is by unplugging electrical devices when they are not in use.

Many appliances and chargers continue to draw power even when turned off, a phenomenon known as “phantom energy.”

Unplugging laptops, kitchen appliances, and entertainment systems when idle not only saves electricity but also reduces your utility bill over time. Happy earth, happy wallet.

Open your window

Another everyday change that makes a huge difference is choosing natural ventilation over mechanical cooling. Instead of reaching for the air conditioner, why not open your windows to let in a breeze instead?

This not only lowers energy use but also improves indoor air quality and connects you to the rhythms of the day.

Few people do not realise that the dry air from the air conditioning is actually bad for the skin. Aiming for better skin health? Use a fan instead.

Besides, natural light coming into the house should suffice. You can keep all those light bulbs when the sun goes down.

We’ve got too many cars

Transportation is another major source of energy consumption, and Earth Day is the perfect time to rethink how we get around.

Practicing smart carpooling, such as coordinating trips with co-workers or neighbors.

Tag along with your co-worker if she or he happens to pass by your home when going to work. Pay them a small fee as a Thank You to sweeten the deal.

By sharing rides, fewer cars are on the road, which eases traffic congestion and reduces wear and tear on infrastructure.

There are already too many traffic jams in Kuala Lumpur, anyway. Even better, consider walking, biking, or taking public transit when possible.

The exercise will do you good too. Save the earth while saving yourself. Think about that!

Besides, the LRT system in the capital city is amazing. More amazing are the people who use it everyday!

Want to save more? e-Sentral, that’s what!

On a side note, there is a huge amount of savings residents could derive from a smart home with all the smart features.

Imagine a home that cools the rooms to a temperature best suited to your needs? Or the lights that go off automatically when ambient light increases.

That’s like a home that thinks. No, more like a home that thinks for your benefits. Sounds like a dream and that is what e-Sentral is all about.
