Upskirt perpetrator in Jenjarom sought; the penalty could be a pathetic RM100 fine if caught

MANY would have watched the CCTV footage of a man upskirting a lady in a supermarket in Jenjarom (a town in the outskirt of Selangor).

The fact that the lady was covered head-to-toe in a loose-fitting robe was seemingly no deterrent to this pervert’s fetishes.

As reported in mainstream New Straits Times, Kuala Langat district police chief Superintendent Mohd Akmalrizal Radzi said an investigation was launched into the case following a Facebook post highlighting the incident which has garnered public attention.

“On Dec 9, at approximately 10.36am, a woman reported that she noticed a man attempting to record a video of her while she was at a supermarket in Jenjarom,” he noted in a statement.

“The woman, upon reviewing the supermarket’s CCTV footage, found that the man had lifted her dress and appeared to be recording underneath it.”.

Police have opened an investigation under the Penal Code for intending to insult the modesty of any person which carries a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment, a fine or both upon conviction.

He added that the case is also being investigated under the Minor Offences Act 1955 for insulting behaviour which carries a fine of up to RM100.

“Minor offences”? RM100?

Perhaps, the police need to also see the reaction on social media to gauge public sentiment.

The incident was widely shared on various online platforms, including MYNEWSHUB (@mynewshub) on X. The post, like others sharing this incident, has gone viral by amassing close to 1M views.

Many netizens expressed disgust, highlighting that women’s attire had nothing to do with men behaving badly. This is given that the victim who was fully covered still invited such unwanted attention.

A few pointedly asked where were the apologists who blame women’s attire for such reprehensible behaviour. One said this was a clear example that sexy attire was NOT the reason for rape.

While another asked if women should go out in “SpongeBob costume (the cartoon character wears his underwear on top of trousers)”? A female commenter advised that women probably needed to wear trousers underneath the robes to avoid such incidents.

Some advised the police to wise up as the perpetrator probably was running a fetish website instead of just prosecuting him for this one incident.

One commented that such perverts were “sick” and had fetishes that even marriage will not resolve.

Most pertinently, many called for serious punishment for this pervert. This included caning, multiple lashes at that.

Another suggested castration.

Or a stoning by a mob.

FocusM is in no way advocating street justice or torture of any sort. But it is hoped that this perpetrator is apprehended soon and the authorities throw the book at him – and for Pete’s sake – not to charge him under Minor Offences crime. – Dec 18, 2024
