RECENTLY, a Youtuber from the United States has been taking the limelight in Malaysia for praising the cleanliness of the local public transports.
According to him, it was a far cry from the subway of New York which was populated with rats.
Interestingly, quite a number of Malaysians have always been cynical towards the quality of the public transports in Boleh Land.

Was it a genuine compliment? Netizen 피무디야 was unconvinced, saying that the American was just making click baits, knowing that Malaysians loved to see contents where white guys were praising our country.
Echoing his opinion was NurulIzzah who cautioned netizens not to accept the praise as these foreigners were looking for a place or country to settle down, one of them being Malaysia.
“What’s there to compare? The New York City subway began operation 120 years ago. Wait till you see the condition of our station 120 years later,” said Gamerdad1980.
However, a good number of well-travelled netizens attested that the American’s remarks were true.
Raihan said riding in the NYC subway was horrifying, that the terrible smell there was vomit-inducing. “This made me appreciate my Malaysia 10 times more,” said Raihan.
Tok Gagah Lela Perkasa claimed that the above statement was true, also having witnessed rats the size of an arm.
Then there was netizen Eddie who experienced the subway during the hot season, where it was smelly, sweltering and noisy.
“If there are places to sit in the station, don’t use it. I confirm you there are homeless people there with their pet Ratatouille,” said Eddie, adding that the train is unstable, and the passengers had miserable faces, not forgetting the permanent stink in the atmosphere.
According to jihadar, the people of New York City have a tendency of not paying for their tickets, resorting to scale the turnstiles instead.
The conversation quickly took a turn to Paris, where Ziaf Mihar shared that the toilets were never cleaned. “Our trains are very clean and good,” he said.
One netizen said the subway in London was equally dirty with the many homeless people on the side of the road.
“Vandalism at the train, blinking lights inside, the lift is not operating for those who want to leave and the cramp stairs that twists and turns,” he added. —Jan 20, 2025
