“Utter hogwash!”: PAS denies role in conspiracy to topple UMNO, BN

PAS HAS denied its alleged role in a conspiracy to topple UMNO and Barisan Nasional (BN), with its vice president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar decrying the leaked documents as “fake” and saying that these were part of an attempt to slander PAS and Perikatan Nasional (PN).

“Do people actually believe in rubbish documents like these? I laughed while I was reading it as my name wasn’t even spelled correctly,” said Ahmad Samsuri when quizzed by reporters at an event at Wisma Darul Aman today (April 20).

“This is not true and I don’t know where it came from. To me this is rubbish.”

It was previously reported that several leaked documents – which were believed to be minutes of a PAS meeting that had allegedly mentioned a plot to topple and disrupt UMNO and BN – had gone viral on social media and reported by a website known as Malaysia Hot.

The so-called leaked documents contained details of several meetings between Ahmad Samsuri and PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan along with several leaders from several other political parties on March 24–27 as well as April 4–7, 2022.

Among the party leaders that were named in the so-called leaked documents include Bersatu Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin and BN treasurer-general Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hussein.

However, Ahmad Samsuri admitted that while there was a meeting with one of the leaders mentioned in the documents the details of the meeting as indicated in the so-called leaked documents were purely fabricated.

“There was a meeting but in a different capacity … perhaps [the author of the documents] was aware of this meeting and therefore came up with such a narrative,” he said.

According to Ahmad Samsuri PAS has not considered taking legal action due to the complicated and time-consuming court process.

“We don’t even know who spread [the fake news] and the legal process is a complicated one, and it is as if we don’t have anything else to do other than lodging police reports every day because of some issue that has gone viral,” he said. – April 20, 2022
