AS most of his peers – let alone people of his age – would have slipped into permanent retirement, former lawyer and Court of Appeal judge Tan Sri Tan Sri Vadaketh Chacko George or more fondly known as VC George chose to put his flair of writing to test.
It doesn’t really matter if good writers are born or made as George with his tongue-in-cheek style has made Some Stories I Have Told and Some That I Haven’t – his maiden book – truly vintage in its own right.
The 274-page book – which by the way is not an autobiography – took the 90 year-old legal eagle two years to craft.
It eventually takes readers on a colourful journey with narration of camaraderie, friendship and more importantly, George’s illustrious career as a lawyer and judge.
The witty and humorous book, which George publishes on his own with the first print of 2,000 copies, features 100 anecdotes of wondrous tales that span almost nine decades, beginning with the arrival of the author’s parents from Kerala, India in 1925.
Thereon, George brings readers’ attention to an unimaginable London in the 1950s as he set foot in the traditional capital of Commonwealth of Nations to read for the English Bar; and not forgetting his appointment as the sole Judge of the High Court in Raub, Pahang in 1980.
In essence, Some Stories I Have Told and Some That I Haven’t is a veritable book that captures fascinating anecdotes throughout George’s remarkable life and career.
The book was officially launched on March 17 by Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah at the Royal Selangor Club in Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur.
Interestingly, George has pledged that the entire proceeds from sale of the first print of his book will be donated towards several charitable causes, including, the Malaysian Bar’s Legal Aid Scheme.
