Vendor says he will be ‘slow to get rich’ if he sells laksa cheaply; elicits much mirth

A LAKSA Johor vendor’s deadpan response to a (potential) customer’s remark about high prices has drawn plenty of guffaws from netizens.

In what appears to be text messages between a customer and the vendor, the former inquires about family packages for Laksa Johor. The customer was taken aback by the price quoted and told the vendor that his prices were too high.

To which the vendor said if he were to sell his laksa Johor at a lower price, he would not get rich fast!

The exchange was shared on Wiki Rakyat’s Facebook page, which drew plenty of comments.

Some netizens suggested that the customer should have bought instant noodles instead, allowing her to stay within budget.

More than a few chided the customer for not being with the programme and keeping up with the price of raw materials.

Some chided the customer for only wanting to pay the cost price, asking why anyone would bother doing business then? (*Note that the original post had been edited, which showed the customer haggling over the price based on the price of ingredients.)

The post was also shared on the Malaysian Education (and Home Schooling Too) Facebook forum, which also drew plenty of responses.

Many simply thought the customer was out of order and should not have attempted to order such a dish with a limited budget.

One netizen suggested a novel solution.

Another seems to sum it up by characterising the customer as a ‘Karen’ (slang for entitled and excessively demanding types).

The post and the numerous comments go to show that the customer isn’t always right. – June 28, 2024
