A SHORT clip showing courier staff hurtling parcels into the back of a truck has raised the heckles of netizens.
The video shared by tikar_getah_damias (@Tikar_Getah_Damias) on TikTok purportedly shows Shopee (SPX) Express courier staff having scant regard for the property of customers, given the manner in which the items were being flung onto the truck.
The narrator in the video expressed his utter disgust at the non-compliance of SOPs (standard operating procedures) in this instance, stating that he had made a report with SPX Express and is awaiting the outcome.

Given that online shopping is a massive business these days and is the preferred choice for many consumers and retailers, the video prompted plenty of feedback. This is a sample of what is being said.
Some netizens hinted that things were even worse at the large warehouse, likening it to a “carnival”.
Quite a few said it was no wonder they often received damaged or broken goods despite the items being securely packed. Even hardy items made of steel could not withstand the rough handling of these couriers.
With another saying, even steel packaging would not survive such mistreatment.
More than a few made the “lazy” and “irresponsible” workers the target of their ire.
Online vendors voiced their frustration at such work attitudes, as it is the sellers who end up having to replace or reimburse customers for damaged goods.
One netizen pointed out that the courier service could face a hefty fine under the Postal Services Act 2012.
Some comments pointed out that not all courier staff were like that. One who claimed to be a courier transporter himself says due diligence and care are taken with the wares in his care.
With one lamenting that due to the actions of a minority, everyone gets tarnished.
Given the interest the video has generated, many netizens have asked for an update as the poster has filed a complaint. He says the relevant parties have initiated contact and that he has readied the necessary documents and evidence for further action.
Post-pandemic, the volume of traffic at these warehouses has grown exponentially. The workers have to deal with great loads and be expected to meet tight deadlines. But this doesn’t excuse the manner in which the workers in the video were treating the parcels.
Also, many businesses (especially online) now rely exclusively on these delivery systems to reach their clientele. These couriers have become an “essential service” in the post-COVID-19 landscape. Surely these delivery companies that are raking in large profits can have better SOPs in place to meet the increased business.
It is time for customers to flex their collective muscles and demand better levels of service. If not, those who continue to offer haphazard and substandard services will surely be overtaken by those who meet customers’ expectations.
In this day and age, as repeatedly pointed out here, social media is a powerful weapon for consumers. Bad publicity that goes viral can make or break a business if not handled judiciously, and there is no perceived improvement. – July 21, 2024
