POWER banks are a wealth of convenience for the contemporary generation where handphone usage is increasing exponentially.
But little do people know that these portable chargers are veritable fire starters waiting to raise one’s house to the ground should they be careless.
That was exactly what happened to the friend of a netizen who posted a video on X showing the condition of the house.
According to Keem, the fire was caused by a powerbank that exploded. He advised netizens to dispose of their power banks if the device had passed its expiration period.
In the video, it could be observed that the roof of the house had completely collapsed to the floor.
Rumah member aku terbakar disebabkan powerbank meletop tiba tiba.
So korang semua hati2 ok, check la kot2 dah expired ke apa, better buang je.

Destruction caused by the fire was extensive, spreading from the gaming room and into the bedroom adjacent to it.
The narrator in the video later showed that the fire had left the Quran untouched, with only minimal damage at the edge of the pages.
The video post that effortlessly garnered over 3,400 reposts also became a forum-of-sorts for netizens to discuss the safety of their power bank devices.
A netizen lamented that he had a laptop battery and a power bank that were swelling. He added that these objects could not be disposed about anywhere.
His comment received numerous replies, most notable among them were from a netizen who suggested that people could search for the location to dispose off their e-waste at KITAR Rasmi.
Netizen JalalMisai added to the story that all the electronic devices that the victim had reviewed were destroyed in the flames.
A quick observation of the victim’s profile on X revealed that he made reviews about laptops and handphone devices.
We suppose with so many electronic devices contained within one’s home, that should be a fire hazard.
Regardless of the tragedy, vital lessons can be derived from the destruction to keep our homes a little safer and that means paying attention to the seemingly innocuous looking and convenience-bearing power bank. – Sept 23, 2024
