PORTABLE cooking stoves should serve as an instrument for cooking food, not as a giant firecracker masquerading as a portable cooking stove.
This is exactly what happened to a group of campers as seen in a video posted on X by Pelabur Bijak.
He went on to state why he preferred stoves that utilised dry wood or coal as a means for cooking. Looking at the terrible explosion, we couldn’t disagree with him.
From the video, it could be discerned that no one was hurt, although everyone could be seen to be visibly rattled.

The campers were most fortunate as there are various other similar incidences that yielded more horrifying results.
Pelabur Bijak went on to point out a newspiece from MSTAR that showed seven family members that suffered burns after the steamboat stove exploded.
According to Pelabur Bijak, this happens due to the fact that the fire source is too close to the butane tank.
He added that the expensive ones are likely to have an insulator within while the cheap ones do not have it. It is easy for the gas can to heat up and consequently explode.

According to a netizen, campers should look for a stove with good ventilation and a butane tank with explosion proof cooling.

Netizen kopitam said that there should be some gap beneath the portable stove or the hot air would be trapped beneath it.
After watching the video, Wak_Erol voiced his concern regarding the stove which he had used for four years.
Reading through the comments, perhaps Wak_Erol had mistaken his more reliable stove compared to the cheaper, more dangerous stove used by the campers in the video.
