IT IS not cool to be fat. Although we live in a time where body shaming or fat shaming is frowned upon, obesity has very real consequences that trump political correctness.
Take it from a recent video where an obese man had to be taken down a flight of stairs to reach the ambulance.
But due to his weight, a team of muscular firefighters were needed for the job. One can only wonder how heavy he was.
Dah boleh stop ayat “gemuk tak menyusahkan orang, tak mintak makan”.
Jadi camni, abam bomba pun boleh patah pinggang nak angkat 😮💨 pic.twitter.com/qzuYuwAHNv

Prompted by the video, netizen @ali_kunji said he felt pity for the fire fighters for they were called to settle almost anything, from a case as huge as a factory being burned to something like this. It is true after all that the real heroes don’t wear capes.
Another sharp-eyed netizen pointed out that the fat guy was likely in the process of losing weight since the tragedy happened in a gym.
But then when we think about it, is the fat guy fat because of his life choices or is it genetics?
According to NHS UK, some individuals may be genetically predisposed to obesity or being overweight. In these cases, certain genes can influence how the body processes food, converts it into energy, and stores fat.
Genetics can also play a role in shaping a person’s behaviour and lifestyle habits. While inherited traits like a naturally larger appetite may make weight loss more challenging, they do not make it unachievable.
In rare instances, specific genetic disorders, such as Prader-Willi syndrome, can lead to obesity. It is a rare genetic condition that leads to physical, mental and behavioral problems. A key feature of Prader-Willi syndrome is a sense of being hungry all the time.
The brief video did not provide any further elaboration on the health issue suffered by the victim, but we can only pray that he gets better soon. —July 6, 2025
