“Visit your constituency more, solve their issues instead of making sleazy remarks,” UMNO leader tells Langkawi MP

LANGKAWI MP ought to use the Dewan rakyat session to speak on behalf of the people in Langkawi instead of issuing sleazy and embarrassing remarks, said an UMNO leader.

Kedah UMNO information chief Datuk Shaiful Hazizy Zainol Abidin said he sympathised with the people of Langkawi for having put up with an MP who did not prioritise the needs of the voters who voted for him during the 15th General Election (GE15).

“The island’s residents are facing various problems that should be solved by their MP (Mohd Suhaimi), among them are the ferry issue, tourism industry and the price of goods that need to be tackled,” Shaiful said in a Facebook post today (Oct 31).

“It’s obscene and shameful. I’m not surprised because all Perikatan Nasional (PN) members in Kedah behaved in such manner since their Menteri Besar himself likes to use vulgarities and insults when they are on the political stage.

“I pity the Langkawi folks for not choosing their MP properly and I had been told that he (Mohd Suhaimi) is not healthy, and his mobility is limited.

“Therefore, my advice to you Mohd Suhaimi, use Dewan Rakyat session as a channel to voice out the problems faced by Langkawi.”

Shaiful, who is also Merbok UMNO division chief, pointed out that the ferry issue is one that requires attention because it involves the tourism industry in Langkawi.

“Besides the ferry issue, there is also monopoly and cartel problems as well as the sea tide issues that reduces the frequency of the ferry operations between mainland Kedah and Langkawi.

“The reduced frequency of ferry operations that bring in tourists will ultimately impact the tourism industry in Langkawi.

“The hotel industry on Langkawi is on the brink of collapsing because of the low number of tourists on the island.

“The three stars and below hotel are affected as well as the homestay which most of them have closed or on the brink of closing.

“Due to the low number of tourists on the island, local traders have no choice but to increase the price of goods and foods to cover their loss.

“Another advice for you Mohd Suhaimi, visit your constituency frequently, solve Langkawi folk’s issues and enough of your nonsense idea of building a MRT from Alor Setar to Langkawi,” Shaiful added.

Mohd Suhaimi caused an uproar in the Dewan Rakyat last Thursday (Oct 26) when he invited a female colleague to visit Langkawi’s beaches wearing nothing.

He was responding to Seputeh MP Teresa Kok, who had asked him if visitors to Langkawi beaches are allowed to wear shorts.

“I especially want to invite YB Seputeh (Kok) to come wearing nothing,” he said during the Dewan Rakyat session, to groans and laughter from other members of the house.

This was not the first time Mohd Suhaimi had uttered a controversial remark in the Dewan Rakyat. Recall that in February, he reportedly had MPs on the edge of their seats with a tale of how a woman had invited him to her home and took off her blouse.

Mohd Suhami then claimed that the woman said she had lost one of her breasts after being attacked by her drug-addled son. He told the story while stressing the importance of combating drug addiction among youths.

Suhaimi won Langkawi with a majority 13,518 votes, against four other candidates including former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. – Oct 31, 2023
