Visitors to TRX shocked to find their cars getting sewage water shower from burst pipe

Editor’s Note: The following is a self-explanatory update from The Exchange TRX – “We were alerted to a burst food waste pipe in the car park and quickly notified   shoppers to promptly re-locate their cars. The affected area has been cordoned off and repair work is currently in progress. Affected cars have undergone cleaning and sanitisation after the incident with additional deep cleaning provided. To further assist, complimentary car wash services have been offered to the shoppers.”

MENTION Kuala Lumpur’s The Exchange TRX (TRX) and visions of fine dining and exquisite shopping experience in premium retail outlets come to mind.

Most visitors certainly would not be expecting to have their senses assaulted by the smell of sewage or their fancy vehicles getting a “free car wash” with wastewater.

But that was exactly what happened to a few unfortunate visitors to the premium shopping and entertainment hub.

In a video shared on X (formerly Twitter) by user amighul deghaman (@ricxxxkiddo), a couple of unlucky ladies are seen gasping for air in the basement car park from the foul smell.

It is claimed they returned to their car to find it awash with sewage water from a leaking overhead pipe.

Bad luck aside, the question is whether the TRX building management and/or car park operators saw fit to do some damage limitation with a free car wash at the very least.

The other pertinent issue is what form of damages can these unfortunate patrons claim for the “damage” to their vehicle?

One cannot blame the vehicle owners for feeling their precious ride has been devalued after being showered in sewage water. Can mall or car park operators hide behind the usual ‘park at your own risk’ disclaimers?

Some netizens pointed out that a premium vehicle was now excrement-stained.

Or even worse, the foul water finds it way inside the vehicle.

But the pertinent question was what sort of compensation could be claimed.

One netizen felt that a minimum of a car wash was in order for this mishap

Given TRX parking rates are not exactly cheap, one netizen said that the very least was a waiver of the charges.

While another went one step further and asked the affected parties to claim for a new car!

With another probably summing out how the vehicle owners felt over this stinky incident.

Some comments suggest that this was not an isolated incident with numerous other issues plaguing Kuala Lumpur’s “premium” social heart and experiential lifestyle destination.

The post which has already generated almost 685,000 views at the time of writing once again underlining the power (and reach) of social media. Make no mistake that posts such as the above can undo all the hard work put in by the TRX management to create a premium vibe for the hub.

At time of writing, it does not appear that any party representing TRX has reached out to the affected vehicle owners. This can be highly damaging to the brand.

And if they did, there must be a speedy dissemination on social media to underline their pro-active stance.

This will also show how TRX is serious in providing a blue-chip customer experience and will bend over backwards to make things right, even if they were not at fault or the incident being unavoidable.

Alas, for the vehicle owner, one netizen’s comment seems to sum up the scenario perfectly.
