Vote for candidates that serve all Malaysians, Melaka voters told

THE DAP has urged Melaka voters to come out and vote for candidates that serve all Malaysians regardless of race, religion and background as the future state government and elected state government must be inclusive rather than discriminatory.

Party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said that the Barisan Nasional (BN) Melaka state government has demonstrated that it is a divisive Government – one that practises policies that “favour cronies at the expense of the rakyat”.

“Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s concept of Keluarga Malaysia cannot be mere lip service but must be followed by action and policies that represent all Malaysians,” Lim remarked.

In a statement, the former Finance Minister pointed out that it is difficult for Ismail Sabri to advise the Melaka state government to be representative of all communities when his Budget 2022 is clearly and unequivocally unfair to the non-Malay communities.

“DAP does not oppose any allocation given to non-Bumiputeras or Malaysians but is against the pathetic Budget allocations given to non-Bumiputeras amounting to less than 0.1% of the largest Budget ever of RM331 bil.

“For non-Malays comprising 30% of the population, to receive 0.1% of the Budget allocation has created unhappiness and dissatisfaction even among the Malays and Bumiputeras.

“Looking at it another way, the Government has announced the Budget 2022’s allocation for the Bumiputera community of RM11.4 bil, with the non-Bumiputera communities receiving about RM300 mil.

“This works out to about RM577 per Bumiputera, RM75 per Indian and RM15 per Chinese. Is this the fairness and justice in the Government and Ismail Sabri’s Keluarga Malaysia?”

According to Lim, Melaka voters should take this opportunity to reject BN or Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidates adopting an extremist political agenda and support candidates that seek to represent and work for all races and religions.

In other news, Anthony Loke has been appointed as the DAP Central Executive Committee (CEC) director of the Melaka state election.

Kota Melaka MP Khoo Poay Tiong, meanwhile, is the DAP Melaka state election director.

DAP is contesting in eight state seats, retaining six incumbents and introducing two new faces.

The six incumbents are G Saminathan (Gadek), Kerk Chee Yee (Ayer Keroh), Allex Seah Shoo Chin (Kesidang), Damian Yeo Shen Li (Duyong), Tey Kok Kiew (Bemban) and Low Chee Leong (Kota Laksamana).

The party has selected newcomers Muhamad Danish Zainudin for the Pengkalan Batu seat while Leng Chau Yen will contest for the Bandar Hilir seat. – Nov 6, 2021
