Wan Junaidi sworn in as new Sarawak governor, succeeding Taib Mahmud

FORMER Dewan Negara president Tan Sri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar assumed office as the eighth Yang Dipertua Negeri Sarawak in a formal ceremony at Balairung Kecil, Istana Negara.

The appointment, effective today, was conferred by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Ahmad Shah.

The 77-year-old Wan Junaidi, appointed under Article 1 of the Sarawak Constitution, is set to serve a four-year term until Jan 26, 2028.

His appointment follows the conclusion of Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud’s three-term tenure from March 1, 2014. The ceremony was attended by Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah. – Jan 26, 2023
