Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) president and chief executive officer Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin is the frontrunner for Malaysia Airlines Bhd chairman, sources told FocusM on condition of anonymity.
Wan Zulkiflee is expected to step down and, according to a source, his resignation is expected to be announced in due time. The reason for him leaving is unclear as he has spent his entire career at the national oil company since 1983.
National newswire Bernama in a report today said Petronas had neither denied nor confirmed Wan Zulkliflee’s resignation.
“Official announcements, if any, will be made at the appropriate time,” said Petronas in a statement to Bernama.
Wan Zulkiflee has been in the driving seat since the first quarter of 2015. His contract was renewed for three years from April 1, 2018.
But news of his possible resignation was also reported by several publications yesterday. – June 6, 2020
