WCE to hold first ever Century Ride on highway

THE West Coast Expressway (WCE) will be organising the WCE Century Ride, its first ever bicycle ride on the highway.

WCE Holdings Berhad CEO Lyndon Alfred Felix said the Century Ride is a 160 km ride – the longest cycling route on a Malaysian highway – that winds its way through Perak’s scenic landscapes and towns, in conjunction with Visit Perak Year 2024.

The route will start and end at the Kampung Lekir Toll Plaza in Perak.

Felix, who is also the West Coast Expressway Sdn Bhd managing director said such rides on roads are nothing new but this will be the first time it will be organised on a highway.

He said the event is being jointly organised with RHB bank and it is broken up into several categories.

“There will also be a 90km ride for both men and women. For the men it will be based on age category. There is also going to be a 28km fun ride which will be open to everyone,” Felix said in a statement, adding that there will be an entrance fee for each category.

He added that the event – which will take place on Sunday, May 19, 2024 – will take place on a closed-system highway, offering a unique and safe cycling experience for all riders.

“It is designed to cater to a diverse range of participants with varying fitness levels.

“The WCE Century Ride is our continued commitment to promoting a healthier lifestyle, fostering community connection and supports our local businesses. We believe that cycling is not only a sport but a way to bring people of all ages together,” he said.

Felix also noted that the Century Ride is meant to cater to everyone from professional cyclists to families and friends looking for fun ride.

Meanwhile, RHB Banking Group managing director and CEO Mohd Rashid Mohamad said the RHB WCE Century Ride is an extension of the RHB LEKAS Highway Ride and is part of the RHB Rides ecosystem that carries the theme ‘Ride for Good’.
