“We have the numbers,” Anwar announces while remaining tight-lipped over identity

IN the wee hours of Sunday morning, Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim claimed that the coalition has the numbers to form the biggest bloc in Parliament though no party nor coalition has a simple majority in the 15th general election (GE15).

“We have crossed the 111, 112 number,” he told the media this morning although he remained tight-lipped on the identity of its partners.

While he insisted that PH has the numbers to form the government with the support of MPs of other parties, the PKR president declined to name the parties/coalition.

“We have entered into an understanding. What I’m saying is we have now the majority to form a government.”

On speculation that PH could be in talk with BN to form the government, Anwar, who has won the Tambun Parliamentary seat by toppling Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu with a 5,328-vote majority said: “I’m not entertaining rumours … we will make the decision based on the facts.”

Anwar added that it was not proper to reveal if the party Pakatan could potentially form an alliance with Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) to form a federal government, he said:

“I’m not absolutely certain if we have the numbers. Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin can claim to do so, pending an election in Padang Serai. We will only be able to inform you when we secure an audience with the King.”

Anwar also dismissed as impossible that PN had secured a majority. “It cannot be. It’s impossible to claim to do so because we have it in writing and we will inform the palace accordingly,” he added. – Nov 20, 2022
