What greater fine dining experience than having the King as the chef

HOW much would you pay for a meal prepared by a celebrity? On another note, what if the celebrity in question happens to be our beloved Sultan Ibrahim.

That should make for a very memorable and at the same time, awkward dining experience.

Recently the king went viral for his classy video, showcasing him preparing meat in vinegar with cucumber. According to him, the meal held a special place in his heart, being a childhood favourite.

As usual, where celebrities are concerned, every single gesture is analysed to the barest detail by our nosy netizens.

Netizen @iam_ein remarked that it was interesting to see the way Tuanku ate the cucumber slices. Another netizen pointed out that eating cucumbers with vinegar is good for health.

“His little sister cooks, and now he wants to make cooking videos too. So cute,” said @SSRzain who was referring to Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, the wife of the Sultan of Pahang.

Another netizen wondered if Tuanku cooking in the kitchen was real, and not an AI.

@fairozee added that the diva-like personality Tuanku exhibited in the kitchen was a side of him that he never saw. “His kitchen is so beautiful,” he pointed out.

According to @_aesivemonster, even the banana hanging in the kitchen was glowing, and it looked like it was not fit to be eaten by a commoner.

Also, @oreo_koshka330 remarked that the king most likely used wagyu beef for the meal.

On another note, does Sultan Ibrahim prepare his meals on his own all the time seeing that he enjoys doing it?

Apparently not. Hamdan Dollah, His Majesty’s personal chef, said to Bernama some time ago that he enjoys traditional Malay village dishes such as asam pedas, gulai nenas ikan kering, ulam with sambal belacan, siput sedut, and boiled clams.

One can only wonder if it was an enjoyable or frightening experience to become the chef for such a high profile individual. —May 4, 2025
