ONE wonders if PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari has triggered a false equivalence fallacy by involving the grandfather of Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming in their on-going war of words after the latter having called on the Islamist party to repent for disrupting racial harmony in multi-faith Malaysia.
This came about as Fadhli who is also the Pasir Mas MP suddenly trained his gun on an Aug 16, 2019 post by Nga on the X platform by asking “which side had your grandfather fought on during World War II (WWII) for there must be evidence in the form of service records”.
He was referring to the five-year-old social media post whereby Nga claimed that his late grandfather as well as that of current Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh were former soldiers who defended the then Malaya during World War II.
“When Japan colonised our homeland, those who sacrificed themselves to defend the country’s sovereignty were heroes and heroines, hence their contributions must be appreciated,” the DAP vice-chairman had penned.
Interestingly, Fadhli who described Nga as a “foul mouth minister” came up with a subsequent post five hours later to express sadness that many commenters had associated the sacrifices of Nga’s grandfather “to the communist struggle”.
Whether this is a damage control measure or to pour more salt on the wound so to speak, the former PAS Youth chief reckoned that Nga’s grandfather could not be fighting on the communist’s side but was indeed “a worthy hero”.
“This must be made into a film by the Communications Ministry. As the task of blocking TikTok is almost complete, the focus can now shift to the task of filming the struggle of the foul mouth minister’s grandfather,” contended Fadhli.
“If the House were in session now, I’ll throw such proposal to the Dewan Rakyat. In fact, it would be good sense to also given a rating to the greatness of the struggle. If not five stars, it could also be four stars or three stars. PH-BN (Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional) supporters would certainly be happy with my writing.”
But it did not end there as around midnight yesterday (Dec 30), Fadhli returned with a third post expressing his inability to comprehend “why many are triggered with his short question (on the first post)”.
This is where he laid bare his true intention that the issue at hand is not about Nga’s grandfather but “the degree of praise accorded (to Nga’s grandfather) so that we can easily get to know this minister and how he thinks”.
“It’s that simple. This is much more polite than him labelling PAS as a deviant teaching party (parti ajaran sesat),” justified Fadhli.
“Besides, he hasn’t been excellent as a minister. His most outstanding feats are only three, namely (staging) the toilet competition, the Ah Long (loan shark) award and the Christmas celebration at the government-owned premises. Deserves a three-star rating. 😁.” – Dec 31, 2024
