BELOW are excerpts of viewpoints from two selected research houses on what investors can expect in the day ahead:
Berjaya Research
The FBM KLCI traded mostly in the negative territory during the session before inching into the positive territory to close marginally higher on Monday, hence extending its winning streak for the fourth straight session.
Trading activity, however, moderated with total market volume easing to 2.73 billion shares from 3.10 billion shares in the previous session.
Market breadth also turned negative with 609 decliners outnumbering 490 advancers, suggesting broad-based profit-taking.
Looking ahead, the FBM KLCI could continue to build on recent gains by taking cue from the positive developments on Wall Street overnight over the resumption of diplomacy talks between the US and Iran.
Nevertheless, investors will monitor a slew of key US corporate earnings, including SpaceX’s maiden quarterly results as a public company.
Alongside this is Advanced Micro Device’s 2Q CY2026 results, both of which are due after the US market closes later tonight for further cues on AI (artificial intelligence)-related capital spending trends and the broader tech and semiconductor cycle.
Technically, the key index recovery remains uninterrupted and could head higher. The immediate resistance remains located at 1,735 points, followed by 1,740 points. Meanwhile, near-term supports are pegged at 1,710 points and 1,700 points respectively.
Malacca Securities Research
Tracking Wall Street’s strong overnight performance, we believe the FBM KLCI will extend its gains today, particularly in the technology sphere.
Meanwhile, we like UWC Bhd, supported by (i) surging demand for AI accelerator test equipment; (ii) its strategic pivot into higher-margin front-end wafer fabrication equipment (WFE) components; and (iii) expanding turnkey assembly capabilities driven by new cleanroom capacity.
Lastly, with the breakout in cocoa prices yesterday, traders could also take positions in Guan Chong Bhd which is pending a 52-week high breakout.
The FBM KLCI continued to extend its gains with the technical indicators showing encouraging signals at the current juncture as the MACD histogram is expanding above the zero line while the RSI is hovering above 50.
Key resistance is pegged at 1,740-1,745 with support expected around 1,705-1,710. – Aug 4, 2026
