What to expect on Bursa Malaysia this Wednesday

BELOW are excerpts of viewpoints from two selected research houses on what investors can expect in the day ahead:

Berjaya Research

The FBM KLCI rebounded on Tuesday, lifted by mild buying support on selected index heavyweights as well as PETRONAS Chemicals Group Bhd following the higher oil prices.

Trading activity climbed to 4.92 billion shares from 4.20 billion shares in the prior session. Market breadth was largely even with 590 advancers against 583 decliners, reflecting on-going rotational play across the broader market.

Looking ahead, the FBM KLCI is expected to trade cautiously in the near term with sentiment likely to oscillate within a tight range as investors adopt a wait-and-see approach over new developments surrounding the US-Iran war over at West Asia.

Meanwhile, attention could also shift towards the highly anticipated meeting between US President Donald Trump and China’s President Xi Jinping.

The outcome of the meeting will be closely scrutinised for any meaningful progress on US-China trade relations with a constructive tone potentially serving as a positive catalyst for regional risk appetite, including Bursa Malaysia.

Technically, the key index has formed a bullish candlestick, potentially stabilising from the recent pullback. The immediate resistance is located at 1,760 points, followed by 1,768 points. Conversely, near-term supports are at 1,744 points, followed by 1,732 points.

Malacca Securities Research

As Wall Street ended lower yesterday, we anticipate profit-taking activities on the local bourse today.

As the World Health Organization (WHO) warns countries to prepare for further hantavirus cases, we expect sentiment to remain supportive of glove manufacturers in the near term, hence traders may monitor for a pullback to accumulate.

Additionally, with cocoa prices hitting a 3.5 month high on El Niño fears, traders may monitor Guan Chong Bhd which staged a breakout from its sideways consolidation and surpassed the 200-day moving average yesterday.

The FBM KLCI has rebounded with technical indicators showing positive signals at this current juncture as the MACD histogram is trading at its positive territory while the RSI is also heading toward 70.

Resistance is seen around 1,765-1,770 with support at 1,730-1,735. – May 13, 2026
