WE all know the issues with WhatsApp groups at work, with the big boss watching but what about groups for teachers and parents? Are they useful or is it insane to be a teacher in such a group?
An X user observed that schools often have WhatsApp groups for parents and teachers.
However, the user expressed concerns that these groups could be overwhelming for teachers, who might have to respond to around 80 parents, given that average classes have about 40 students.
Is it a government school policy for every class to have a WhatsApp group with the teachers? That kind of access between parents and teachers is not healthy. There should be boundaries. I mean one person dealing with 80 parents (if there are 40 kids in class) cannot be good.

Users state that these group chats should typically have only one parent of a child in it instead of reducing the number of people in them.
But, some schools may have the practice of having both parents in the group chat.
Some users find it strange to have a group chat between teachers and parents. Despite this, it appears that this has become somewhat the norm during the Covid-19 lockdown days.
Following that, it continued on as parents are able to receive on-the-dot notifications about their children’s classes.
Additionally, users claim that most parents are respectful and that these groups are meant to send mass messages from the school to the parents.
It is not supposed to be a two way communication channel. Regardless, there might be some parents who may over step this boundary by asking a lot of questions. —Feb 23, 2025
