When Chinese of different faiths found themselves in ‘warpath’ over the Palestinian Solidarity Week

INDEPENDENT preacher Firdaus Wong Wai Hung (main pic left) has likened MCA and National DAP vice-chairman Nga Kor Ming (main pic right) as being “siblings of the same father but different mothers” in their condemnation of the Education Ministry’s Palestinian Solidarity Week as promoting extremism in the form of violence and hatred among school-going children.

In a tit-for-tat rebuttal of both MCA and Nga who is also the Local Government Development Minister, Firdaus has accused both of over-zealously echoing the Israeli and western narrative yet turned a blind eye to a recent cosplay event in a Chinese type school in Klang whereby the pupils “also lifted toy weaponry”.

“If you criticise the donning of the Hamas garb as promoting extremism and violence, will you also condemn a somehow similar cosplay act in conjunction of National Day at SJKC Pandamaran where pupils also carried toy weapons?” asked thee 40-year-old preacher-cum-digital creator who embraced Islam on Aug 10, 2015 in a Facebook post.

“Until now, as a Chinese myself I’ve not yet heard any condemnation and criticism from MCA against SJKC Pandamaran pupils who carried toy weapons or wore cosplay costumes that featured rowdy scenes and even ‘murder’! Doesn’t that also contain elements of extremism and violence? Or because the school is SJKC thus different principles apply?

“(At any rate,) I will not be like you to demand that the teachers at SJKC Pandamaran to be punished. I am a Muslim who has been taught to be fair.”

In a somehow more personal attack on Nga who is also the Teluk Intan MP, Firdaus added:

“Kor Meng, I just want to ask you this. Are you a minister of the Malaysian government or an Israeli minister? If you are a minister to the Malaysian government, why does your expression of view differ from that of PMX (Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) and the Malaysian government but seemingly similar to that of Israel and the US?”

For context, PAS has also slammed Nga alongside three PKR MPs and nine of the party’s state assemblymen as well as few other political leaders for criticism levelled at the Palestinian Solidarity Week event that kicked off at schools nationwide on Sunday (Oct 29).

“It is very shameful to hear such voices when the world condemns the tyranny of Zionist Israel which has killed more than 10,000 Palestinians in a period of 23 days,” defended PAS newly-minted information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari.

Added the former PAS Youth chief: “We should open our children’s eyes about the issues that are happening and not build a perception around the garb donned by Palestinian fighters as if they are militants!” – Oct 31, 2023
