IT TOOK 59 years for Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh to land her first lead role in a Hollywood film. And it’s taken 95 years for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to recognise an Asian woman to be adjudged the Best Female Actress award at the recent Academy Awards (Oscars 2023).
And the Malaysian icon who was nominated for her star turn in “Everything Everywhere All at Once” dropped by at Putrajaya to pay Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim a courtesy call ahead of the Hari Raya Aidilfitri festivity.
“She recalls the ups and downs of her life journey especially to reach her level of success today,” penned the Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman who himself holds a world record as the longest PM-in-waiting (24 years since 1998 before being appointed to his current position).
“She also revealed how her glorious success of wining the Oscar award is so meaningful to her, her family and also Malaysians at large. Indeed, her achievement has successfully lifted the name of the country on the international stage. I wish her all the best and to continue reaping more successes in the future!”
Just recently, the Ipoh-born Yeoh made headlines for visiting her father’s grave in Tanjung Rambutan (Perak) with Oscar in hand to honour him during Qingming.
Today, she is in the city to speak to the press and, later in the evening, she will be meeting and greeting fans at the nearby Pavilion KL.
Accompanied by her partner Jean Todt and niece Vicki Yeoh, the Oscar winner reportedly arrived at Subang Airport from Hong Kong at 1.30pm on Monday (April 17) after a whirlwind visit to Hong Kong last week.
On Tuesday (April 18), the “Everything Everywhere All At Once star” made an appearance at the “Pride of Malaysia Michelle Yeoh Homecoming Public Fan Meet” at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur. – April 20, 2023
