“Where are you, Shahril?”: Netizens mock PM’s economic adviser for “going missing” during crisis

WITH cost of living rising as inflationary pressures strain Malaysians’ wallets, the people showed their anger towards the Government for apparently being clueless on how to resolve the matter.

This time around, netizens ridiculed UMNO information chief Shahril Hamdan for apparently “gone missing” ever since prices of goods shot up.

It is to note that Shahril serves as Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s economic adviser, a job he took up in October last year.

In a tongue-in-cheek post by Malaysia Gags, the satirical site posted a “missing person” announcement on Shahril and called for the public to help “find him”.

“Name: Shahril Hamdan, Post: the PM’s economic adviser.

“Last confirmed location: Believed to have gone missing since prices of goods shot up,” the caption on the post reads.

Amused by the post, netizens joined the foray and provided various “details” and tips on the UMNO leader’s supposed whereabouts.

User Edy Ashraff asked:

(Have you looked in a cave? Have you asked the pallbearer? How about the morgue? Perhaps we should check with the grave stone maker too)

User Nick added:

Netizen Amirul Ame retorted:

(The person has gone missing but he never missed his payroll. What baloney)

As prices of raw goods soar, Ismail Sabri announced the formation of a committee to wage “jihad” (holy war) on inflation, on June 30.

Dubbed the “Pasukan Khas Jihad Tangani Inflasi” (Special Jihad Taskforce Against Inflation), the all-minister team is headed by Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa.

Parked under the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry, the committee would formulate strategies to resolve inflation-related issues by gathering information from relevant ministries and agencies.

Seeking divine inspiration?

It is to note that despite being the economic adviser to the prime minister, Shahril was excluded from the committee.

On that note, user Naruto jested that Shahril was probably meditating in a cave to get divine inspiration on how to resolve the nation’s economic woes.

Netizen Humanity retorted with picture of a primate sleeping on a tree branch, with a caption: “Pi cari kat hutan..(go find him in the jungle) – July 10, 2022
