While others falter, one glove maker rewards its staffers

WHILE several glove makers in Malaysia came under fire for breaching local regulations on managing their workers’ welfare, one company decided to reward their staff due to the unprecedented times.

In a document dated Dec 29 sighted by FocusM, WRP Asia Pacific Sdn Bhd had decided to reward its employees with a one-month ex-gratia bonus as a reward for their hard work during the tough times.

“The bonus rate is equal to one-month basic pay as of December 31, 2020. Confirmed employees as of 31 December 2020 who were employed by the company for the entire year of 2020 without break will receive the one-month ex-gratia bonus,” said its president Leong Wai Leong.

Memo issued by WRP Asia Pacific Sdn Bhd

He added that confirmed employees as of December 31, 2020 who were employed by the company for less than a year (2020) will receive a pro-rated one-month ex-gratia bonus.

However, some will not be eligible for the bonus such as those who have resigned and are serving their notice period.

Employees who are on long unpaid leave are also exempted from the ex-gratia payment.

Leong made it clear that the bonus was at the absolute discretion of the company and is on a non-precedent and non-contractual basis.

“Payouts will be paid in two payments. 50% will be paid in January 2021 salary and balance 50% in February 2021 salary.

“The success of the company will not have been possible without the contribution of every individual. We congratulate you on this occasion and hope that every one of you will work with the same enthusiasm in the future,” Leong added. – Jan 3, 2021.
