“Why are we even keeping them?” Netizens slam decision to dump rogue cops in East M’sia

NETIZENS have called out the federal authorities for transferring nine of their problematic personnel to East Malaysian territories, with many questioning the rationale of such action.

This is in response to deputy Selangor police chief S. Sasikala Devi’s announcement yesterday (Aug 2) that nine police personnel involved in an extortion racket in Gombak were transferred to Sabah and Sarawak pending investigations.

The officers, ranging from constables to sub-inspectors from the narcotics crime investigation department, were detained last Friday (July 29). Investigations are currently ongoing.

“OK YB. Respect the people of Sabah and Sarawak. Why are we still keeping problematic police personnel?” tweeted user @khainizamohamed.

He was responding Kota Belud MP Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis who told federal authorities that Sabah and Sarawak were not dumping grounds for the rogue police officers.

An equally peeved user @illuminaughty76 said, “So the people of Sabah and Sarawak get ‘crappy’ police? Is that it?”

User @ennietrando similarly questioned such a move: “Why do you throw ‘trash’ to Sabah and Sarawak? We don’t want them either. Whenever government officials cause trouble they will be transferred to East Malaysia.”

Nonsensical policies aplenty

Meanwhile, user @luq_tarmizi stressed that the country will not progress and the society will not feel safe so long such policies be allowed to continue.

“When policemen get involved in extortion, they are sent to Sabah and Sarawak. When teachers molest their students, they are sent to district education offices. When civil servants have severe disciplinary problems, they are transferred to non-critical sectors,” he noted.

“The country will not progress and the society will not be safe so long as there are nonsensical policies like these.”

User @aamrhmzhbkr further alluded that this has been common practice, pointing out that Sabah and Sarawak have always been a “dumping site” for problematic civil servants.

“It’s not just the police but also others from government services like teachers and doctors,” the user said. – Aug 3, 2022
