Why fear snap polls if you’re strong, Puad asks “forked tongue” PAS

UMNO supreme council member Datuk Puad Zarkashi claimed that PAS is against an early general election as the Islamist party knows it would get trounced badly.

“I’m not surprised that PAS is against snap polls. Nothing unusual with Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor accusing former UMNO president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak of fearing prison time either.

“The idea is, PAS just doesn’t want UMNO to triumph. They are just buying time to find ways to slander the nationalist party even further,” he said in a Facebook post.

Three days ago, Sanusi claimed that Malaysia will be doomed if voters choose “one or two” power crazy leaders who bent on saving their necks instead of administering the country.

As for PAS, he added the party was against an early general election because the country is plagued by many issues.

“Zahid wants snap polls because the Bagan Datuk MP is now on trial for corruption and he fears prison time.

“His only hope is that by ensuring the ‘court cluster’ gets saved by the intervention of a new administration,” Free Malaysia Today reported him as saying.

This prompted a rebuke from UMNO information chief Shahril Hamdan, who accused Sanusi of unattempting to undermine judges’ credibility.

“Is Sanusi saying that if Barisan Nasional (BN) wins the general election, our judges will suddenly be forced to change their minds?

“If that is what the MB is implying, I suggest him to say it out loud. Bear in mind, Sanusi will be making a heavy accusation not only on Zahid but also our judiciary’s integrity,” he was reported as saying.

Ask Hadi to earn his keep

Touching on the matter, Puad claimed that PAS was running out of ideas on how to undermine UMNO, given that the Islamist party is also part of the Government.

“They can’t blame UMNO on rising cost of living and inflation as PAS is part of the administration too.

“So, instead of telling us to advise our president on snap polls, I suggest PAS tells its president to do some work to earn his salary,” he mentioned.

As for snap polls, the former deputy minister said it would be dumb for UMNO to delay it given that the party was in a strong position now.

“Every party wants to win and UMNO wants to win big to provide a stable administration unlike now where the Government is weak and can be pressured.

“Even PAS would dissolve its state assemblies in Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu if it was sure of winning,” Puad remarked. – June 13, 2022
