“Why is TCO’s alleged monitoring of Terengganu MB persisting?”

PAS Youth Chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden criticised the alleged monitoring of Terengganu Menteri Besar (MB) Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar under a Travel Control Officer (TCO), claiming it questions the nation’s direction.

He asked, “Is holding differing political views now considered a security threat?” and called such actions “an abuse of power”.

Afnan urged the government to stop intimidating dissenters, warning, “Do not ever use government agencies as tools to defend your political narrative.”

However, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail clarified no monitoring was needed, as VVIPs like Samsuri are guarded for safety. Inspector General Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain denied TCO misuse, calling Samsuri’s claims inaccurate.

PAS Terengganu, in a Facebook post, appears to offer insights addressing the issue raised by Dr Sam.

In the Facebook post, the Terengganu wing of the Islamic Party stated:

PAS Terengganu amplified Dr Sam’s claim of being monitored under a TCO and following in the footsteps of PAS youth, questioned if political dissent is now a security threat.

They decried it as “an abuse of power” and a dangerous erosion of institutional integrity.

While the government denied targeted surveillance, PAS insists the coordinated rebuttals reveal Samsuri’s strength, not weakness, against a rattled establishment. — April 12, 2025
