Somehow the news has elicited very little sympathy from the global audience given the current hostilities in the Israel-Hamas conflict which has seen the Jewish state dropping bombs on beleaguered Palestinians.
The continued occupation of Palestine is seen as a grave injustice and this wildfire is seen as a wake up call to not just Israel, but the world at large.
This natural disaster has been likened to divine retribution in many of the comments.
Some took particular delight that this disaster has thrown a spanner in the Jewish state’s Independence Day celebrations.
The anger and fury of many netizens was evident and sympathy was in short supply. In fact, many hoped to see the destruction of the Jewish state.
Quite a few were hoping for stronger winds to carry the blaze towards the capital, Tel Aviv.
One commenter even labelled the wind as “Pro-Hamas”.
One wryly noted that the fire could return but not Palestinians.
Many comments were quite simply anti-Semitic which reflects the sense of anger many feel over the continued occupation of Palestine.
Some commenters were in no doubt as to who the blame for the continued atrocities in Palestine with Netanyahu singled out.
One netizen though cautioned that this may be used as an excuse for Israel to move its capital from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
This may be a hugely unpopular opinion, especially here in Malaysia, but the language of hate should never be normalised.
It would then be just too easy to replace ‘Israel’ or ‘Jews’ and propagate the destruction of another state and its peoples.
