DEPUTY Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying, the daughter of DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang said her family was prepared to step down if no longer needed.
Nevertheless, Hui Ying, the sister of former Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng had acknowledged the “Lim family era” in politics, attributing it to DAP and voter support.
“Every politician must have the right mindset. When the time comes to step down, we need to accept it,” she said.

The statement triggered an online ‘referendum,’ with a significant majority of users on X urging her to step down.
While some expressed disdain toward the Lim family, others used sarcasm to ‘vote’ against them.
The focus now shifts from whether she will resign following this surprising online reaction to the broader question of how popular or unpopular DAP leaders are among certain segments of the Malaysian population.
Jokingly, a user said the Lim’s are still needed by PAS, perhaps suggesting that without them, the opposition party had more to lose.
Another user asked whether DAP lacked talents since the Lims felt they were needed in the party. Or is DAP unable to let go of Lim Kit Siang’s imposing family?
No one knows why Kit Siang’s daughter made this sudden statement. Are the Lim’s under pressure in the party to quit?
Are they not happy that former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak might be released from jail and spend the rest of his sentencing in house arrest?
A Facebook post by Lim Sian See, the administrator of Najib’s account, featured a video showing the Lim family alongside Member of Parliament Rayer at a press conference.
They criticised UMNO’s involvement in a PAS-organised rally in solidarity with Najib.
Lim Sian See commented, “Wow! The entire Kit Siang family is out. Upon hearing that PAS and UMNO will rally together for Najib and that Najib might be placed under house arrest, the entire Kit Siang family had to come out (along with RSN Rayer) and issue a statement to condemn.”
“They’re really scared of Najib. Let’s all come down in large numbers on January 6th starting at 9 am. P.S. RSN Rayer, when are you going to debate with me about the 1MDB and SRC cases?”
Meanwhile, there were a few lone voices defending the Lims.
“I respect @limkitsiang for speaking up about transparency and standing against the regime since the beginning. This is someone brave enough to provide checks and balances against UMNO and BN all this time. Jada hang, I won’t forget you. Only fools fail to appreciate this,” one user said on X. —Jan 19, 2025
