UMNO Youth chief Datuk Muhammad Akmal Saleh is turning to an unusual fundraiser after losing a RM300,000 defamation suit: he is auctioning off his Honda X-ADV motorcycle and his pet tilapia.
The Melaka High Court ruled yesterday that Akmal had slandered Seputeh MP Teresa Kok over the halal certification issue. He had also called her “nyonya tua”.
Akmal says the sum is simply beyond the funds that he has.
“Honestly, RM300,000 is too huge an amount for me. After calculating my savings, it is still not enough,” he wrote on Facebook.
“With a heavy heart, I am opening bids for two of my favourite assets: Honda X-ADV motorcycle and tilapia fish,” he said.
Both the items were close to his heart. “It is with a heavy heart that I have to part with something I love.”
