HEROES come in many shapes and forms. In this recent instance, from diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds.
It may seem too churlish to have to even point this out but in the state of heightened tensions – thanks to politicians’ continued stoking of racial and religious issues – it is necessary to highlight that Malaysians really can go beyond this superficial divide.
In a video making the rounds on social media, a lady and a couple of good Samaritans were seen providing first aid assistance to a motorcyclist who appeared to have suffered a heart attack.
Their quick response in administering Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) roadside certainly appeared to help the motorcyclist regain consciousness.
The video which was posted by a Newswav reporter showed the distressed motorcyclist crumpling to a heap roadside near a petrol station in Klang. Bystanders were quick to offer help, not least the heroics by the lady in administering CPR, which was probably crucial in helping to resuscitate the victim.

The video has garnered positive reactions with many netizens pointing out that when push comes to shove, Malaysians really do not care about racial divides. Help is offered when needed and that is how it should be.
It is heart-warming to see ordinary Malaysians rise above the toxic invective being spewed from some politicians.
This sentiment was best espoused by FB user Sasikumar Selaya who noted: “This is real Malaysia. Not politik (sic) Malaysia.”
Hear, hear, indeed.
As an aside, the authorities may want to consider teaching such first aid skills to secondary school students. It can actually help save lives. – Sept 11, 2023
